Bulky Gift Knits, Part 1

Bulky Gift Knits, Part 1

The air is getting crisper, the days a little shorter, and that unmistakable holiday feeling is just around the corner. As crafters we know that Christmas brings scads of handmade projects - gifts for loved ones, neighbors, and friends.

Whether you're a seasoned knitter or just picking up the craft, we've stocked up on soft, bulky yarns that are perfect for fast, satisfying projects. Think chunky cowls, snuggly hats, and mittens that knit up in a weekend (or less!). We're so inspired by all these new yarns we created a collection of bulky knit and crochet patterns that would make great gift knits! Allow me to introduce you to our favorite bulky yarns, and patterns we'd love to knit with them!

JUNIPER MOON BEATRIX

Beatrix won me over by being possibly the softest thing I've ever touched. A blown blend of Merino and angora with a hint of stabilizing polyamide, Beatrix is fluffy, luxe, warm, and very lightweight. I can't wait to knit my bestie a hood or balaclava out of Beatrix in a bright heathered shade.

Here is a collection of patterns we like for Beatrix. I particularly love the Big City Bonnet by Alexa Kari, Sherbet Bandana by The Lamb & Kid, Tromsø Hoodie by Sisu Knitwear, and The Gift Cowl by Hannah Siegmund.

LAINES DU NORD YOUNG AND TRENDY

Young and Trendy is a sturdy wool yarn with an impressive range of colors. We ordered it in solid and self-striping colorways, and love the idea of using multiple colors together.

I think Young and Trendy is perfect for super-quick knits will stand the test of time - see the full collection of patterns we recommend here. I'm planning on using it for Leaf by Susan B. Anderson, Monogram Hot Water Bottle Cover by Tara Marie, Split Brim Hat by McGehee Textiles, or Faded Love Cowl by North Country Knts.

JEWELSPUN WITH WOOL

We recently brought in Sirdar's entire Jewelspun line, and we're extra excited about Jewelspun with Wool. It's an affordable, gorgeous yarn in a really cool mix of self-striping colors.

I'm excited to play with color while working with Jewelspun - here is our collection of patterns we find suitable. I especially recommend the Chain Loop Circle Scarf by Ashley McCann, Thick and Quick Álafosslopi Mittens by Simone Van Iderstine, Woodsman Tuque by Michelle C Meadows, and Lush Brioche Cowl by Cassondra Rizzardi.

TEDDY DEAR

Gepard's Teddy Dear has gone viral in the knitting world, and we think it deserves the attention. A super soft mix of Merino wool and alpaca with a unique boucle texture, Teddy Dear is perfect for anything warm and fuzzy.

Find our list of patterns that would work with Teddy Dear here. I want to use it to knit the Puff Puff Princess Blouse by Park Williams (check out Sage's version in Teddy Dear!), Be my Baby Mittens by Popknit, Beanie No. 6 by My Favourite Things, or Fluffy Fleece Vest by Johanna Reus.

Check back in a few days for even more gift knit recommendations!
