Cowrie Kini / PDF Pattern

$ 16.00

This is a digital PDF sewing pattern, not a physical product.

The Cowrie Kini (named after the Cowrie shell! The shape of the top resembles two cowrie shells I think) is a bikini pattern with two style options for the top and a French cut bottom with medium coverage and two waist rise options. View A, the flat front top, is finished with fold over elastic (FOE) and has a G-hook closure in the back. You can choose either mid- or high rise bottoms for both views. View B, the tie front top, is self faced and this construction is commonly called “seamless”, meaning you don’t see the seams and the lining and main fabric is the same.

You will learn:
✿ How to sew swimwear on your regular sewing machine, no serger necessary.
✿ Two ways of finishing edges on a bikini

Fabric suggestions: This tank works best in a jersey knit with at least 40% stretch crossgrain (from selvedge to selvedge). You will find a stretch guide on your pattern pieces. If using a knit fabric with not enough stretch, you might want to size up. The stretch in the fabric will also effect how the bindings sit, not enough stretch and they won’t lay flat against your body. A typical “t-shirt” fabric is usually 100% cotton and will not stretch enough or have enough recovery (how fast it bounces back when you stretch it). You will need fabric with some elastane/spandex in it. Try one of these; bamboo jersey, rayon jersey,  modal jersey, cotton mix jersey or rib knits.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

I was born and raised in Sweden, and studied Fashion Design and Pattern Making there. In my twenties I came to Hawai'i, fell in love with a local surfer, and now we are raising our three boys on the island of O'ahu. I feel incredibly blessed to call this amazing place home!

I started my pattern making/technical design career in 2016 in Honolulu, working for small, local brands. After a few years I fell pregnant with my first son, and decided I wanted to freelance when I became a mother. My job now is so fun and multi-faceted. I still work with a lot of local brands, and I even get to pattern and grade for a lot of people that I met through Instagram, in addition to running my own little pattern design studio, Paradise Patterns. I love having one foot in the clothing manufacturing business as well as the home sewing community!

Thank you so much for stopping by, and please feel free to email me with any questions!

xx, Sanna
