Description: Learn to sew the Bestie Bag by BF Patterns. Emily will walk you through each step of the pattern and help you create your new favorite bag! Bring your own machine or use one of ours. The Bestie Bag is a banana-shaped carry-all companion with four different views, so you can tailor its size, straps, and pockets to suit your needs and style. You will learn how to use a zipper foot, how to install a zipper, and how to line a bag. This class is for ages 16 and up.
Please note, in this class Emily will only be teaching the lined bag option, not the bias-bound seams option.
Prior skills recommended: This is a confident beginner friendly pattern. You should already know how to how to thread your machine, sew straight and zig zag stitches, use a hand needle, and change stitch length and type on your machine.
Materials needed:
- The Bestie Bag Pattern from BF Patterns
- 0.8 yards (views A & B) OR 1.2 yards (views C & D) of main fabric. Medium to heavyweight fabric is recommended, such as canvas, denim, and twill.
- 0.7 yards (views A & B) OR 1.1 yards (views C & D) of lining fabric. Lightweight fabric is recommended, such as quilting cotton, poplin, and cotton lawn.
- 1x 15" (views A & B) OR 21" (views C & D) closed end zipper. It is recommended to get the exact length of zipper.
- Interfacing for main and/or lining fabric (optional).
- 1.5 yards of 1.5" webbing (optional)
- 1x 1.5" bag strap slider (optional).
- Pins or clips
- Thread
- Hand sewing needle
- Universal foot and zipper foot (if you're bringing your own machine)
When: This class takes place over two Tuesday evenings:
- June 18 from 5:15-8:15pm
- June 25 from 5:15-8:15pm
Prep work: Before the first session of class students will be expected to:
- Purchase, wash, dry, and iron fabric
- Purchase and print pattern and cut necessary pieces for the view you choose
- Cut all pattern pieces out of fabric and interfacing
- Apply interfacing to your pattern pieces as described in the pattern.
Class Policies: Materials that you buy in person at Harmony for your class will be 20% off. Class fees are not refundable or exchangeable for any reason. Classes with 2 or fewer sign ups will be canceled, and if the class is canceled students will be notified via email 2 days before the class begins. All classes are held in-person at Harmony.
