$ 60.00

Description: Learn the construction basics for toe-up sock knitting with Mel! We'll design a custom sock pattern based on your foot that you can use again and again. We'll learn a wedge toe and short row heel, with other options for better fit if needed. You'll be able to use sock yarn of any weight and design your sock based on your gauge.

Prior skills recommended: Basic knitting skills including increasing and decreasing

Materials needed:

  • One 100g skein of sock yarn in fingering or DK weight.
  • Needles in a size that works with your yarn, either in DPNs, a 40" circular, or a 9" circular.
  • A measuring tape.
  • Pen or pencil
  • A calculator is helpful not not essential

Prep work: Before the first session of class you will need to make a gauge swatch using the same yarn and needles you'll use in class. Since this is a custom knit-to-fit pattern, an accurate measurement of your gauge is very important. Mel recommends to make your swatch you cast on at least 25 stitches, knit in stockinette stitch using this method for in-the-round swatching, and knit for at least 20 rows.
